Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 26, 2026
Genesis 45:1-8
1 Joseph could no longer control himself in front of all his attendants, so he declared, “Everyone, leave now!” So no one stayed with him when he revealed his identity to his brothers. 2 He wept so loudly that the Egyptians and Pharaoh’s household heard him. 3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I’m Joseph! Is my father really still alive?” His brothers couldn’t respond because they were terrified before him. 4 Joseph said to his brothers, “Come closer to me,” and they moved closer. He said, “I’m your brother Joseph! The one you sold to Egypt. 5 Now, don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me here. Actually, God sent me before you to save lives. 6 We’ve already had two years of famine in the land, and there are five years left without planting or harvesting. 7 God sent me before you to make sure you’d survive and to rescue your lives in this amazing way. 8 You didn’t send me here; it was God who made me a father to Pharaoh, master of his entire household, and ruler of the whole land of Egypt.
Good Morning! Through Christ, we are saved!
Yesterday was a day filled with blessings. God’s presence filled the spaces of worship and walking as we gathered as faithful believers. The peace that wafted through the air was palpable. Where I expected tension, there was freedom.
Like Joseph’s brothers, who felt they had no other option but to travel to Egypt to secure the nourishment needed to survive the famine, I felt called to go to D.C. to replenish my soul. The brothers sought physical nourishment, while I sought spiritual renewal.
Among those gathered, I found brothers and sisters in Christ who represented a portion of God’s diverse children. All came to support those who are marginalized, vulnerable, and even invisible to the world at large.
God sent us to show solidarity with all God’s children, who deserve the dignity of love, compassion, and mercy. Jesus didn’t come to save a small select group of people; he came to save all God’s children.
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you as a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
Whatever we do for the least of these around us — the vulnerable, marginalized, sick, or impoverished — we do for Jesus. When we serve them, we’re serving him. When judgment day comes, will we be among the sheep or the goats?
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! May we continue to serve those who need a hand. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Let go of your fears and show others the love of Christ.
Many are called, but few will answer. Pastor Liz
