Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 29, 2022
Read Galatians 6:1-5
1 Brothers and sisters, if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual should restore someone like this with a spirit of gentleness. Watch out for yourselves so you won’t be tempted too. 2 Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are important when they aren’t, they’re fooling themselves. 4 Each person should test their own work and be happy with doing a good job and not compare themselves with others. 5 Each person will have to carry their own load.
Good morning! Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow!
This morning feels really good. I woke up in my own bed, spent some outside time with God and of course Neon, and read my Bible passage. There was no immediate pressure to interrupt my morning time with God. You may be thinking this doesn’t sound like anything special, but it is the normalcy that makes the morning special. Do I still have a multitude of boxes to unpack and all the other parts of moving? Yes, but the hectic feeling of the last few days has been replaced with peace. Thanks be to God.
When we accept Christ and become part of the body of believers, we are blessed with a support system so that we might love and care for one another using the gifts with which each of us is blessed. We must never lose sight of the understanding that we each have our part to do. Being a Christian is not a spectator sport where some do work and others sit and watch.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:14-16, 14 As a result, we aren’t supposed to be infants any longer who can be tossed and blown around by every wind that comes from teaching with deceitful scheming and the tricks people play to deliberately mislead others. 15 Instead, by speaking the truth with love, let’s grow in every way into Christ, 16 who is the head. The whole body grows from him, as it is joined and held together by all the supporting ligaments. The body makes itself grow in that it builds itself up with love as each one does its part.
Just as all the parts of our physical body work together to form the whole, our spiritual bodies flourish when each lovingly serves God using their own unique gifts to contribute to the needs of the one body. Just as we watch a flock of birds flying and sharing the challenges of flying in front, we must step up when we are called and do our part. When we are spent, our fellow believers will step forward and take the point. Each day brings its own celebrations and challenges and our brothers and sisters are with us to support whatever needs arise as we all are supported and loved by our Creator.
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. You gave each of us different gifts, and each gift is necessary to the functioning of the body. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God encourages me to share my burdens with others.
Love One Another! Pastor Liz
