Morning Devotional 070524 Chatting With God

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  July 5, 2024

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

11 We are constantly praying for you for this: that our God will make you worthy of his calling and accomplish every good desire and faithful work by his power. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored by you, and you will be honored by him, consistent with the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Good Morning! Take time to pray today!

Prayer is a powerful tool that allows us to connect with God on a personal level. It’s the key to finding the love, peace, and understanding we all seek, and the comforting embrace of God's love.

I remember people with whom I once had daily conversations. We shared everything, and we were connected. We knew that no matter what happened, we could go to this friend, and they would love and care for us, even when we did dumb things. For various reasons, those daily conversations became weekly ones, then monthly, and finally, maybe a card for Christmas and birthdays. They are still among those I call friends, but we are no longer a significant part of each other’s lives.

Our relationship with God is like this. When we have daily chats, we are connected and we know that we can call on God when we need anything. Regular, daily prayers keep our connection strong and our hearts open. When our daily chats become less frequent, our connection weakens. We feel awkward when we try to talk because we are ashamed of our absence.

Relationships require more than an occasional check-in. Think of those yearly cards we mail. We can’t share everything, so we say a few nice things or sign our name. We can’t mail in a relationship with God. The more we invest in our relationship, the more it grows and flourishes. Spending time with God should be protected time, not just something you do if time allows.

God of Love, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You created us and you know our weaknesses. Help us start our days with you by our side. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Keep the lines of communication open.

Take time to chat with God! Pastor Liz
