Read Job 38:1-7
1 Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 2 Who is this darkening counsel with words lacking knowledge? 3 Prepare yourself like a man; I will interrogate you, and you will respond to me. 4 Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundations? Tell me if you know. 5 Who set its measurements? Surely you know. Who stretched a measuring tape on it? 6 On what were its footings sunk; who laid its cornerstone, 7 while the morning stars sang in unison and all the divine beings shouted?
Good Morning! Our God is an awesome God!
The Book of Job is challenging. It is easy to stand with Job in the early chapters when he is questioning God about justice and why there is so much suffering because Job states his case so very well. Many throughout history have questioned God especially during extreme times such as our current pandemic. Where is God? Why isn’t God removing the pandemic? Why does God let so many people suffer?
After letting Job go on for a long time, God finally begins to respond to Job in verse 38. God chooses to set the record straight by giving his credentials through a series of unanswerable questions. This accounting goes on for a considerable amount of time. In the end, Job realizes that even though he has much earthly knowledge, no one on this earth has true knowledge of heavenly, holy things. Earthly wisdom wanes in comparison to God’s knowledge. God's ways are not our ways! God's thoughts are not our thoughts!
While we walk this earth, we get glimpses of God’s power and glory as we develop and nurture our relationship with our creator. Our hearts and minds are opened as we grow in fellowship and follow our path of faith. These brief glimpses of our future glory provide us with the hope of eternal life which sustains us through our challenges and obstacles along our journey. Thanks be to God! When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We are curious beings, and within us we question many things. Why this? Or Why that? Why doesn’t God fix this? May we spend time in fellowship with you and listen so that we may grow in love. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Only God’s understanding is perfect.
Spend time with God! Pastor Liz
