Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 29, 2023
Ephesians 3:14-21
14 This is why I kneel before the Father. 15 Every ethnic group in heaven or on earth is recognized by him. 16 I ask that he will strengthen you in your inner selves from the riches of his glory through the Spirit. 17 I ask that Christ will live in your hearts through faith. As a result of having strong roots in love, 18 I ask that you’ll have the power to grasp love’s width and length, height and depth, together with all believers. 19 I ask that you’ll know the love of Christ that is beyond knowledge so that you will be filled entirely with the fullness of God. 20 Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us; 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus for all generations, forever and always. Amen.
Good Morning. Fall on your knees and cry, Holy!
Let’s remember the parable of the sower as we consider this passage. In the parable, we are given examples of seeds that fell on the pathway and were eaten by the birds, seeds thrown among the rocks that quickly grew by then withered and died when the hot, dry days came because they had very shallow roots. The seeds that landed in the good soil could put down roots and flourish.
To grow in the love of Christ, we need to prepare our souls for planting by reading scripture, praying, and worshiping together. In this fertile soil, the seeds of understanding can develop deep roots that will support and nourish us during times of hardship. Those with roots founded in the love of Christ can weather the storms of life that will come. Within the body of believers, all shall be nurtured and protected as we grow together in the love and power of God.
Creator God, We love you! You provide all that we need to put down roots and grow into strong believers. Let us remember to keep our souls healthy through your words. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is with me in my waiting.
Nourish your soul! Pastor Liz
