Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 5, 2023
Read Exodus 34:28-32
28 Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He didn’t eat any bread or drink any water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words. 29 Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two covenant tablets in his hand, Moses didn’t realize that the skin of his face shone brightly because he had been talking with God. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw the skin of Moses’ face shining brightly, they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called them closer. So Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and Moses spoke with them. 32 After that, all the Israelites came near as well, and Moses commanded them everything that the LORD had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
Good Morning, Smile! God loves you!
I’m on my way to Florida this morning. As we head south, the sunrise is happening on my left, and the moon is setting on my right. The glow of the sun was reflecting bright orange off the moon.
Upon reading this passage, I could envision Moses’ glowing face in the shining of the moon that was being lit by a heavenly source. God sent Jesus to be our light. We can look to the light for guidance and support, but we are also filled by the light so that we might lead others to Christ.
Those who are filled with the Holy Spirit have a special glow that emanates from them. Like Moses, we aren’t always aware that we are glowing. There are some who are frightened by the possibilities that we share, but we should continue to reach out. Over time, they might begin to see the truth that lies within us.
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Help us so that we let your light glow from within us. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: I will carry God’s light with me everywhere I go.
Shine in the Darknessz! Pastor Liz
