Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd. I lack nothing. 2 He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; 3 he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and your staff they protect me. 5 You set a table for me right in front of my enemies. You bathe my head in oil; my cup is so full it spills over! 6 Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the LORD’s house as long as I live.
Good Morning. Jesus says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest!”
Rest! That wonderful, sometimes elusive condition. Have you ever had a time when you were so tired or exhausted, but when you went to bed or tried to rest, you couldn’t? The problem is our minds can’t just suddenly turn off with the flip of a switch. We need resolution when we get keyed up and have loose ends hanging in our brains.
All of those sleep assistive techniques like counting sheep are ways to help refocus our brain on menial thoughts so that sleep can come. Most of us have heard that you should never go to bed angry. Again, anger is one of the sleep inhibitors.
Giving our troubles to God is the best way to free our brains and make room for peace. In the 23rd Psalm, David reminds us that God is with us always. Even when we feel lost and alone, fear not; God is by our side, providing for us.
Our challenges are overcome through our faith. Paul writes to the people of Philippi, ''Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.'
Give your worries to God, and find the rest you seek.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We struggle with our worries. Thank you for taking them and giving us peace in their place. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Take time to rest and refuel!
Give your worries to God! Pastor Liz
