Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  January 24, 2025

Genesis 1:11-12

11 God said, “Let the earth grow plant life: plants yielding seeds and fruit trees bearing fruit with seeds inside it, each according to its kind throughout the earth.” And that’s what happened. 12 The earth produced plant life: plants yielding seeds, each according to its kind, and trees bearing fruit with seeds inside it, each according to its kind. God saw how good it was.

Good Morning. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

God’s creation is amazing. Every facet exhibits intricate details waiting to be discovered. Each season reveals new revelations.

I enjoy going to art museums and exhibits, but I have realized that my process of observing artworks has changed over the years. As a novice visitor, I aimed to see all of the displays within my allotted time. I would look and read any posted information and move on to the next piece of art. I noticed the benches but assumed they were for those who needed to take breaks during their visit.

On one visit, I saw a painting that spoke to me. I stared at the colors as they blended from one stroke to the next. I moved closer to see intricate details, and then I moved back to allow the full scope of the painting to envelope me. Suddenly, I realized I was standing in front of one of the benches. I decided to sit and ponder the image for a bit longer. I was mesmerized, and it seemed as if time had stopped. Finally, as I prepared to move on, I thought, “Oh my, that was good.”

Along our faith journeys, we are given the opportunity to engage in God’s creation fully. The journey is not a race to see who reaches the finish line first. Take time to enjoy each moment and see beyond a casual glance all that is good. Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today because you might not pass this way again. Finally, only God knows our allotted time to ponder and view the beautiful landscape of life that lies before us.

Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We are sometimes consumed by our daily tasks, and we forget to marvel at what is good.  Help us slow down and enjoy life here and now. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Enjoy God’s precious creation!
