Read Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Isaiah 55:8-9
8“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Good Morning! Our God is an Awesome God!
Here we go again, wrestling with trusting God! I added the verses from 2 Peter and Isaiah this morning to help frame our conversation. We read that God’s ways are not our ways and God’s time is not our time, but we are challenged by this concept especially when it comes to God answering our prayers.
Just like a kid waiting for our birthday to open gifts and eat cake, we are impatient. We want it now! When we petition God, we want our answer is to be obvious and timely. Now, for us, those parameters are within our earthly perspective. You could view this as we humans, children of God, are the detail patrol, whereas God is in charge of the big picture.
The problem with managing details is that we are so busy trying to control the immediate outcome that we are oblivious to how these small details fit into the larger picture. You could say that we, as God’s children, are sometimes (often) micro-managers. Sorry for stepping on all of our proverbial toes this morning. (I include my own toes in this)
To summarize these three passages into one: We must trust God in everything we do, believe that God is always with us, and understand that God has a plan so that we can all join together in peace at the heavenly banquet table. Hallelujah! Amen!
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We spend so much time worrying about the small details, that we lose focus on following You. Thank you for allowing the time for all to come together so that no one will be left behind. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God’s ways are not my ways.
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Pastor Liz
Amen!
