Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
Feb. 4, 2025
Psalm 121:1-8
1 I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. 3 God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. 4 No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! 5 The LORD is your protector; the LORD is your shade right beside you. 6 The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. 8 The LORD will protect you on your journeys whether going or coming from now until forever from now.
Good Morning. Let us rise and give thanks to God!
My greatest blessing is to lean on God when I feel shaky and cannot stand on my own. As a youth, I worked hard to develop the confidence that allowed me to believe in myself. I believed I would accomplish my goal if I did the required work. I discovered this view was naive because nothing is as cut-and-dry as it seems on the surface.
Through my experiences, I learned how to persevere when life's unexpected challenges crept in and altered my plans. Somewhere along my journey, I began to discern the need to lean on others, especially God. I don’t know if I gained wisdom or if the aging of my body has allowed me to ascertain that I can’t do everything myself.
Thanks be to God, who steadies me when the ground seems to move beneath my feet. Thanks be to God, who leads me into new opportunities to shine the light of Jesus.
Thanks be to God, who allows me to continue to learn even when I fail.
Thanks be to God, who loves me as I am and is with me every moment of every day.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! Thank you for never giving up on us. By your grace, we can conquer our shortcomings. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: “My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me” (Ps. 63:8, NRSVUE).
I lift my eyes to the hills and shout, “Thank You, God!” Pastor Liz
