Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
February 17, 2022
Read John 8:2-11
2 Early in the morning he returned to the temple. All the people gathered around him, and he sat down and taught them. 3 The legal experts and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery. Placing her in the center of the group, 4 they said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. 5 In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone women like this. What do you say?” 6 They said this to test him because they wanted a reason to bring an accusation against him. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger. 7 They continued to question him, so he stood up and replied, “Whoever hasn’t sinned should throw the first stone.” 8 Bending down again, he wrote on the ground. 9 Those who heard him went away, one by one, beginning with the elders. Finally, only Jesus and the woman were left in the middle of the crowd. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Is there no one to condemn you?” 11 She said, “No one, sir.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, don’t sin anymore.”
Good Morning! Love one another.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are forgiven. We are called to go out and make disciples as we share Christ’s love with the world. Along our journey, we meet many people who are not like us. It is not our place to question their different ways, but to offer them Christ. John Wesley is credited with saying “In essentials unity, in non-essentials grace.”
We are all sinners and fall short of following God’s commands, but by the grace of God through the love of Jesus, we are saved from our sinfulness and welcomed into the community of faith. Hallelujah! Amen!
God sent Jesus to save God’s children because of love. Jesus when in human form was the only person to walk this earth without sin. Because of this unconditional love, Jesus gave his life for us, so that we might have eternal life. Go out and share the love of Jesus with the world. God will take care of assessing judgment. Embrace the peace that all who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior are forgiven their sins.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. Sometimes we are ready to cast stones at those who we deem unfit for your kingdom. Let us remember that we, too, are imperfect and not meant to judge others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: I will follow Christ’s teaching and forgive my enemies today.
Put away your stones! Pastor Liz
