Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 17, 2026
Matthew 6:25-30
25 “Therefore, I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you’ll eat or what you’ll drink, or about your body, what you’ll wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t sow seed or harvest grain or gather crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are? 27 Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Notice how the lilies in the field grow. They don’t wear themselves out with work, and they don’t spin cloth. 29 But I say to you that even Solomon in all of his splendor wasn’t dressed like one of these. 30 If God dresses grass in the field so beautifully, even though it’s alive today and tomorrow it’s thrown into the furnace, won’t God do much more for you, you people of weak faith?
Good Morning! For his eye is on the sparrow, and I know he cares for me.
As I watched the sky this morning, and the sun began to rise, I felt like I was peering into a futuristic world. The partially veiled sun and fog created a scene reminiscent of a sci-fi backdrop. Within minutes, the sun was totally enveloped in the dense fog that filled the view.
When I consider God’s promise of eternal life, I have moments when I see far-off glimpses of glory. Imagine looking through a scrim or an opaque substance that lets you make out shadows. Before my eyes and brain can fully see images through the shadowy light, the lights dim and my view is shrouded by the soupy fog.
I believe that God allows these momentary glimpses to help us maintain our hope and sense of purpose along our long, bumpy faith journey. We need encouragement during those moments when it seems our work is in vain or in times of utter dismay at the futility of our journey.
When we nurture the signs and glimpses of eternal glory by sharing our struggles with God in prayer, reading Scripture, and coming together as a body of faith, we can toss our worries into the fire and step with confidence into the chaos that accompanies our daily journey.
The Good News is that God is always with us, providing what we need whenever we need support.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! Help us let go of anxiety and worry. Fill our void with love and peace. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Pay attention to glimpses of God’s glory.
Worry won’t add a day to our lives! Pastor Liz
