Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
Feb. 22, 2025
Psalm 37:3-6
3 Trust the LORD and do good; live in the land, and farm faithfulness. 4 Enjoy the LORD, and he will give what your heart asks. 5 Commit your way to the LORD! Trust him! He will act 6 and will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like high noon.
Good Morning. Commit your way to the Lord!
As an elementary school student, I remember loving to help my mom decorate her classroom each year. We would change the bulletin boards to reflect the seasons or the next unit of study. I especially liked updating the calendar each month. February was one of the fun months. Even though it was the shortest, it had the most special days to insert into the grid: Groundhog Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, Valentine’s Day, and Washington’s birthday.
Today is Washington’s birthday. I have long admired George Washington and his role in the birth of our nation. I characterize him as a Godly man who accomplished the impossible by God’s grace.
Only a person of great faith could have endured and encouraged his men at Valley Forge and during the crossing of the Deleware. The dispatches he sent to the Continental Congress were kind in tone and were always signed: your most obedient servant, Go. Washington.
Washington led a ragtag group of people to establish a new nation in which all had the opportunity to worship God and create a better life for themselves and their families. Through it all, George remained a humble servant.
Today’s Psalm reminds us to trust God, do good, and commit our way to the Lord.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! Thank you for your blessings. May we use our gifts to serve others in Your name. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Look for opportunities to serve God by serving those around us.
Trust God. Serve Others! Pastor Liz
