Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 24, 2024
Philippians 4:4-7
4 Be glad in the Lord always! Again I say, be glad! 5 Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. 7 Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
Good Morning! Rejoice! Again I say, Rejoice!
Thank you, God, for your mysterious ways. After a week with more than a few challenges that created worry and anxiety for me, today's passage reminds me to give my worries to God. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:27, 34
During our times of worry, we become frustrated and sometimes struggle with how we treat one another. Verse 5 says, “Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people.” Again, thank you, God! We can never lose sight of the fact that we are all imperfect children of God who make mistakes.
I say again to myself and anyone else who is struggling to let go of worry. LET GO, and LET GOD! Everything’s gonna be okay! Now I’m smiling as I hear the reggae beat of Bob Marley gently filling my heart. Throw off your worries and simply sing:
Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"
God used this song to bring peace to my soul today.
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. We are so silly! We get caught up in worry and focusing on things that distract us from You. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When I feel worried, I will focus on Christ, the light of the world.
Embrace the joy of God! Pastor Liz
