Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
Feb. 26, 2025
Mark 8:28-34
22 Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged him to touch and heal him. 23 Taking the blind man’s hand, Jesus led him out of the village. After spitting on his eyes and laying his hands on the man, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 The man looked up and said, “I see people. They look like trees, only they are walking around.” 25 Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again. He looked with his eyes wide open, his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly. 26 Then Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t go into the village!”
Good Morning. Jesus opens our eyes to see clearly.
I distinctly remember getting glasses when I was sixteen. My vision problem revealed itself when it was time for me to get my driver’s license. When I got my glasses, I suddenly noticed the crispness of the leaves on the trees as we drove by them. I hadn’t realized that the leaves resembled the trees I drew in art class with just a blend of colors.
The blind man’s description of the people looking like trees walking around aptly describes how we often see the crowds of people surrounding us. When we see people as a blur, we don’t see those in need or those with problems. Perhaps this is a survival mechanism for us. If we saw the needs, we would have to react, but that scares us, so we don’t allow ourselves to look too closely.
Jesus opens our eyes so that we may see clearly. Instead of seeing a stranger, we see a child of God. Thank you, Jesus!
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! Remove our blinders so that we see all people with new eyes. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Look at people with compassion rather than judgment.
Look around and see God in the faces of others! Pastor Liz
