Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

March 3, 2022

Read Philippians 2:1-11

1 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort in love, any sharing in the Spirit, any sympathy, 2 complete my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, being united, and agreeing with each other. 3 Don’t do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves. 4 Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others. 5 Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus: 6 Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. 7 But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings. When he found himself in the form of a human, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God highly honored him and gave him a name above all names, 10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth might bow 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Good Morning! Let every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Christ alone had the experience of being human and divine. When Christ came to earth, he put the needs and struggles of every human being before his own. He taught us through his example that we are called to support and love one another. Jesus accepted the lowliest tasks with humility.

I remember how his disciples responded when Jesus began to wash their feet. Simon Peter was in shock and told Jesus that we would not allow it. Jesus told him that if he wouldn’t allow this, he would have no part of Jesus. Simon Peter responded, “not just my feet, but my hands and head as well.” 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:16-17

We are called to humble ourselves before God. This can be challenging because it contradicts earthly norms. When we see and respond to the needs of others, despite our own pressing agendas, we are humbling ourselves in service to our Lord and Savior. Reach out and touch humanity! We are called to the “valley” to walk among the lost souls, to let the light of Jesus shine through us, and to lead others by our example to the path of righteousness so that all might be saved.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. You blessed us by sending Your Son to teach us the new way. Sometimes we need remedial instruction. May we continue to learn through the example of those you place before us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I can be God’s hands of help and healing for someone today.

Let the light of Jesus shine through you! Pastor Liz
