Morning Devotional 030924 A Pinch of Sugar

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  March 9, 2024

1 Corinthians 12:4-11

4 There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; 5 and there are different ministries and the same Lord; 6 and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. 7 A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good. 8 A word of wisdom is given by the Spirit to one person, a word of knowledge to another according to the same Spirit, 9 faith to still another by the same Spirit, gifts of healing to another in the one Spirit, 10 performance of miracles to another, prophecy to another, the ability to tell spirits apart to another, different kinds of tongues to another, and the interpretation of the tongues to another. 11 All these things are produced by the one and same Spirit who gives what he wants to each person.

Good Morning! All good gifts come from heaven above!

Have you ever been assigned to a group for a project? Everyone in the group had similar strengths and abilities. Imagine if all were “A” type personalities, who had a knack for taking charge, but they lacked anyone to do the tedious research work to do well on the project. The group would not do well. Likewise, in any group in which all had the same skills or gifts, their efforts would fall short.

God gave each of us unique gifts that are necessary for the success of the whole. We need those who take charge, those who listen, those who create, those who heal, and those who have wisdom and knowledge.

Sometimes, we think that our gift is no longer necessary, but as any good baker knows, the bread will not rise without the pinch of sugar to activate the yeast. Whether we are the pinch of sugar that goes unnoticed or the great orator to whom everyone listens, all are equally important to God.

Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. As we go through life’s challenges, You remind us that we are a necessary part of the one body.  We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: All are important in the fellowship of believers.

Share your gifts! Pastor Liz
