Morning Devotional 032523 We Are Messy, but Saved!

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

March 25, 2023

Read Jeremiah 18:1-5

1 Jeremiah received the LORD’s word: 2 Go down to the potter’s house, and I’ll give you instructions about what to do there. 3 So I went down to the potter’s house; he was working on the potter’s wheel. 4 But the piece he was making was flawed while still in his hands, so the potter started on another, as seemed best to him. 5 Then the LORD’s word came to me:

Good Morning, Rejoice, Rejoice, Again I Say Rejoice

Oh, by the grace of God, we are saved. I am in awe when I consider how the Holy Spirit works inside each of us to mold and make us into the beings that God sees. I remember the projects in my life that I started but never finished: cross-stitched pictures, fabric cut out but never sewn together, and carpentry things. Sometimes I just got busy and forgot about the project. Other times. I realized that it would take much longer than I was willing to spend. Of course, there are those projects that I made such a mess of that it was better just to let it go. I even remember a friend who got a pottery wheel for Christmas. That was the ultimate mess-maker we quickly put away when it didn’t work out how we expected.

What if God just stepped away from or forgot about unfinished projects? After all, we are the handiwork of God. God’s work with us remains unfinished until we grow into perfection when we join with God in heaven. Think of the size of that basement, closet, or shed needed to house all of the broken, misshaped, and unfinished beings. Like my own unfinished work, maybe God decided that the project (us) was taking longer than he was willing to invest. Are we the ultimate mess-makers that are best put away?

Our God is an awesome God with endless patience. When we are cracked or marred, the Holy Spirit reshapes us into a new vessel ready to hold the love, grace, and mercy that God provides. We are called to allow the changes to happen by choosing Christ.

What happens to those things we love that we use repeatedly? Over time, they fade, get cracked, or get tattered. God promises to nourish us and renew us through prayer, reading Scripture, and joining together in worship and fellowship. For those who choose Christ, we are in the process of continual renewal. God doesn’t put away or give up on his projects. Praise be to God. God is at work every moment, every day, making all things new. We, God’s creation, should bow down and worship our amazing God!

Blessed God, We thank you for Your blessings. Help us! We, the clay, are a mess! Please remold us into your image. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Every day, I will look for the miracles that the Lord sends my way.

Our God is an Awesome God! Pastor Liz
