Morning Devotional 032623 God is Our Strength

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

March 26, 2023

Read Colossians 4:1-3

1 Therefore, if you were raised with Christ, look for the things that are above where Christ is sitting at God’s right side. 2 Think about the things above and not things on earth. 3 You died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Good Morning, This is a day of new beginnings!

When we age, it is common to look at our past and remember the things that used to be. Some say, “it was so simple then.” While it is comforting to reminisce about the old days and the old ways, it is essential that we never lose sight of our future glory that will be revealed in Christ. The critical part of looking back is reminding ourselves of our firm foundation. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11

Our strong foundation allows us to stand firm when the winds grow fierce. In the midst of the storm, we focus on Christ, our Redeemer, as we lean into the everlasting arms of protection. When the storm passes, we must shore up our defenses through prayer, reading the Word, and praising God in worship. Otherwise, if we leave our foundation unattended, it becomes weak as new storms come and erode our moorings.

Through the grace of our God, we have been given all the gifts that we need to complete our journey. Later in Chapter 3 of Colossians, we read, 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Jesus is the rock of my salvation, His banner over me is love.

Blessed God, We thank you for Your blessings. It’s so easy to focus on our earthly path and get stuck in the mud. Help us focus on You so that we may see the beauty of Your love. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: No matter what I face, I am made stronger when I focus on God.

Fear not; God is with us! Pastor Liz
