Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 8, 2024
1 Corinthians 12:12:20
12 Christ is just like the human body—a body is a unit and has many parts; and all the parts of the body are one body, even though there are many. 13 We were all baptized by one Spirit into one body, whether Jew or Greek, or slave or free, and we all were given one Spirit to drink. 14 Certainly the body isn’t one part but many. 15 If the foot says, “I’m not part of the body because I’m not a hand,” does that mean it’s not part of the body? 16 If the ear says, “I’m not part of the body because I’m not an eye,” does that mean it’s not part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, what would happen to the hearing? And if the whole body were an ear, what would happen to the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God has placed each one of the parts in the body just like he wanted. 19 If all were one and the same body part, what would happen to the body? 20 But as it is, there are many parts but one body.
Good Morning! They will know we are Christians by our Love!
As we say in our Holy Communion liturgy, “because there is one loaf, we who are many become one.” Our Creator made each of us unique, and all are needed to complete the one.
Sometimes, when things aren’t going as we would like, we allow our doubts to creep in and we think that we aren’t important. This is especially true when we are physically suffering due to an injury or age. We are often unaware of how the little things we do create ripples of goodness through the community.
I’m reminded of the character of George Bailey, down on his luck, who believes that his life is unimportant. He is given the opportunity to see how the lives of others would have been impacted if he weren’t there to do the “small” things in their lives.
It is unlikely that we will ever know how sharing a smile or a kind word affects someone else. This gesture may be the difference that saves someone else. Imagine a world filled with ripples of kindness bouncing against each other.
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Open our eyes and hearts to treat each other with love, dignity, and respect. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When we need help, we can find God’s strength in others.
Smile and make the world a better place! Pastor Liz
