Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 10, 2026
Acts of the Apostles 2:1-4
1 When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly, a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. 4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
Good Morning! Breathe in the Spirit of the Lord
As I read this passage this morning, I think about different ways of experiencing things. Often, we are the observers watching something unfold before our eyes, like the audience at a theatrical performance. We enjoy watching and, occasionally, feel as if we’re drawn into the story. Regardless, we are outsiders, and at the end of the evening, we will go home mostly unchanged by the experience.
Now, think about times when you are in the midst of an event where you play an active part in the action. Whether your part is small or big, each part is integral to the overall experience. Because you are engaged in the action, all of your senses are fully functioning. You see, feel, hear, smell, and taste everything that envelops you. By the end of the event, you are likely to have changed in some way.
When we are in the presence of God, we can sit and watch from afar, or immerse ourselves in the liminal space God presents to us. God sent the Holy Spirit to work within us to mold and make us into the beings we were created to be.
Make a decision to allow the Holy Spirit to move you as God presents opportunities to serve others.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! We get so self-consumed that we forget to pay attention to you. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to shape us into your children. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Take time to notice the Holy Spirit working within you!
Allow the Spirit to lift you to God’s glory! Pastor Liz
