Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 13, 2025
Colossians 3:12-17
12 Therefore, as God’s choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other. 14 And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 The peace of Christ must control your hearts—a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. 16 The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.
Good Morning. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts!
14 And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: love is the glue that holds everything together. Whatever we do, whatever choices we make, must be rooted in the love of Christ. Love is the driving force behind all our actions.
When love is the motivation, nothing can be done out of selfishness or a desire for recognition. Jesus calls us to serve one another without regard to status, gender, or race. He demonstrated how to be a servant each day of his ministry.
At the last supper, when he began to wash the feet of his disciples, Peter said, "No, you shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me." "Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"
17 Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! Help us humble ourselves that we might be like Christ. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Proudly wave the palms and tell the world, “Jesus is Lord and Savior!”
Act in Love! Pastor Liz
