Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 14, 2024
Psalm 46:1-7
1 God is our refuge and strength, a help always near in times of great trouble. 2 That’s why we won’t be afraid when the world falls apart, when the mountains crumble into the center of the sea, 3 when its waters roar and rage, when the mountains shake because of its surging waves. Selah 4 There is a river whose streams gladden God’s city, the holiest dwelling of the Most High. 5 God is in that city. It will never crumble. God will help it when morning dawns. 6 Nations roar; kingdoms crumble. God utters his voice; the earth melts. 7 The LORD of heavenly forces is with us! The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah
Good Morning! God is our refuge!
As I prepare to embark on my journey to Alaska, I am reminded to let go of my worries and let God take charge. The last few days have been filled with preparation, not only for the trip but also for handling those worries that I leave behind. God is calling me to serve, but now God is reminding me to rest.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus models for us the need to rest and pray. I am challenging myself to focus on God during this trip by letting my worries slip away. I can’t wait to see all of God’s amazing handiwork and glory in a place far from home. I can take time for respite because I trust that God will lead me.
This morning, I am taking time to be purposely present with God as I sit in the quietness of this place. When I feel anxious, I will breathe and whisper, "Thank you, God!"
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Affirming God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Traveling is exciting and scary. Lead us to find opportunities to serve wherever we may go. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God knows our distress and is present with us.
Fear not, God is with us! Pastor Liz
