Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 15, 2025
1 Samuel 17:32-37
32 “Don’t let anyone lose courage because of this Philistine!” David told Saul. “I, your servant, will go out and fight him!” 33 “You can’t go out and fight this Philistine,” Saul answered David. “You are still a boy. But he’s been a warrior since he was a boy!” 34 “Your servant has kept his father’s sheep,” David replied to Saul, “and if ever a lion or a bear came and carried off one of the flock, 35 I would go after it, strike it, and rescue the animal from its mouth. If it turned on me, I would grab it at its jaw, strike it, and kill it. 36 Your servant has fought both lions and bears. This uncircumcised Philistine will be just like one of them because he has insulted the army of the living God. 37 “The LORD,” David added, “who rescued me from the power of both lions and bears, will rescue me from the power of this Philistine.” “Go!” Saul replied to David. “And may the LORD be with you!”
Good Morning! And may the Lord be with you!
He believed! David had unwavering faith when he set out to face the Philistine! In his young life, David had faced danger as he kept the wild animals away from the flock. He believed that he survived those encounters because God was with him, and if that was the case, why wouldn’t God protect him from the Philistine?
Oh, if only we could have believed with that fervor! Imagine if we could walk into danger with our heads held high. Too many times do we hunker down and wait for the challenges to dissipate instead of taking care of them right away?
God promises to be with us at all times. We are called to trust and go where God leads us. We are not promised that everything will be easy, but God promises to take care of us.
David shows us by his example how to stand strong and believe that God will protect us.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We like it when things are easily fixed. Help us accept the challenge and never give up. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God works in us and through us.
Trust God. Pastor Liz
