Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 25, 2024
1 Peter 5:6-11
6 Therefore, humble yourselves under God’s power so that he may raise you up in the last day. 7 Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you. 8 Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world. 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, the one who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, empower, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be power forever and always. Amen.
Good Morning! To God be the Glory!
What do we hear and see when we turn on the news? There is little goodness to be gleaned; therefore, many focus on the negative. The devil seems to be running rampant through our communities. During these times, doubts creep in, and people begin to ask “Why would God allow this to happen?”
God does not cause our misery or the evil around us. Remember that God gives us free will to make decisions for ourselves. The consequences of the poor decisions are the mess that fills the news.
God calls us to stand strong and be the standard-bearer for others to see so they might find their way home. Through Christ, we are restored, empowered, strengthened, and established.
Encouraging God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. By your grace, we will be redeemed. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Stay focused on the light of Christ
