Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 31, 2022
Read 1 Peter 5:6-11
6 Therefore, humble yourselves under God’s power so that he may raise you up in the last day. 7 Throw all your anxiety onto him because he cares about you. 8 Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world. 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, the one who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, empower, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be power forever and always. Amen.
Good Morning, Stand firm in the faith!
As I meditate this morning, I consider any distractions that are getting in my way. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to clear my head, but as I turn my thoughts over to God I begin to sense God’s peace overtaking me. What a blessed feeling!
There are times when I find myself requiring the same anxiety more than once. I turn it over to God and then I take it back and worry once again. Fortunately, our God is gracious and lovingly accepts me no matter how many times I try to intercede on my own behalf.
We are called to resist evil and stand firm in the faith. Even when you seem to be the only one standing, you are never alone. God is with us and will strengthen us to withstand any barrage of evil that we encounter. Thanks be to God!
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Your peace is wonder-filled. Help us within our human frailty to let go of our troubles so that we may rest in peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: I can trade my problems for the peace of God.
I’ve Got Peace Like a River in My Soul! Pastor Liz
