Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 31, 2024
Psalm 107:1-9
1 “Give thanks to the LORD because he is good, because his faithful love lasts forever!” 2 That’s what those who are redeemed by the LORD say, the ones God redeemed from the power of their enemies, 3 the ones God gathered from various countries, from east and west, north and south. 4 Some of the redeemed had wandered into the desert, into the wasteland. They couldn’t find their way to a city or town. 5 They were hungry and thirsty; their lives were slipping away. 6 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God delivered them from their desperate circumstances. 7 God led them straight to human habitation. 8 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people, 9 because God satisfied the one who was parched with thirst, and he filled up the hungry with good things!
Good Morning! It is a beautiful day to thank God!
As I prepare for Kenneth’s high school graduation, I remember those exciting days in my own life. When I close my eyes, it seems like yesterday, but when I reopen my eyes, I realize that it was such a long time ago. I felt prepared to enter a new phase of my life, even though I had no idea what that really meant.
It’s funny how when we are young, we are always pushing to enter that next season of life, yet as we age, we want to stretch out the days that seem to slip by so quickly. Many of us experience some type of midlife crisis during which we try to reclaim our youth, but time continues to march forward.
Our young graduates cannot imagine the twists and turns that will alter their path, nor the obstacles that will block their way. Perhaps this is a good thing. They will have good times and hard times, but God is with each one when they are ready to call out and ask for guidance.
As parents and grandparents, we pray that our children will turn out okay because we know that we have made mistakes. Thanks be to God, who shows mercy to us.
Encouraging God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. By your grace, we are blessed. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Whatever life brings, God can always pull us through.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers! Pastor Liz
