Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

June 2, 2025

1 Timothy 2:1-7

1 First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. 2 Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. 3 This is right and it pleases God our savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. 7 I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I’m telling the truth and I’m not lying! I’m a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Good Morning! God blesses us every one!

God calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves. I have mentioned before that there is no exception clause included in this command. This causes us, God’s sinful, weak children, much difficulty. We have a propensity to judge one another, and even ourselves.

Even when we work hard to accept those who are different from us racially, culturally, socioeconomically, or in gender, we sometimes fall into the trap of judging those who adhere to different ideological beliefs and values.

Timothy’s words in verse 2: 2 Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity, remind us to pray, not complain. The power of prayer in those who believe overcomes all earthly constraints.

Imagine a world where everyone loves and supports one another regardless of their faults and flaws. This is the ideal to which we should all aspire. This is not easy, nor will it ever be, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. Thank God for a merciful and gracious God who sees our potential, not our imperfections.

Giving Lord, who blesses us abundantly! Thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to save us. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: We can be part of the healing of our neighborhoods and communities.

Aspire to love everyone! Pastor Liz
