Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 14, 2025
Luke 6:46-49
46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and don’t do what I say? 47 I’ll show what it’s like when someone comes to me, hears my words, and puts them into practice. 48 It’s like a person building a house by digging deep and laying the foundation on bedrock. When the flood came, the rising water smashed against that house, but the water couldn’t shake the house because it was well built. 49 But those who don’t put into practice what they hear are like a person who built a house without a foundation. The floodwater smashed against it and it collapsed instantly. It was completely destroyed.”
Good Morning! Build your life on God!
As we come to the end of holy conferencing in Roanoke, it is right to consider the foundation upon which we build our lives. In the time of worship that opened the conference, we boldly sang, How firm a foundation! The second verse has long been a reminder for me in times of worry and despair.
2 "Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
Sadly, we all have those times when we ask for help and choose not to follow the advice we are given. God promises blessings to those who come, listen to the words, and put the words into practice. This is what it means to build your life on the firm foundation of God’s words. Nothing can knock down those who stand strong with the Lord.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Even when we forget to listen, you patiently wait to help us when we come. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Our faith grows strong when we stand firmly in the soil of God’s word.
O be not dismayed! God is with us! Pastor Liz
