Morning Devotional 062026
Passage selected from today’s Upper Room Verses
Proverbs 3:1-6
1 My son, don’t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands, 2 because they will help you live a long time and provide you with well-being. 3 Don’t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
Good Morning, Trust in the Lord with all your heart!
Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
How do you help yourself remember important things? I have employed many kinds of reminders over the years. I might set an alarm reminder, leave myself a note, or place the thing I need to remember in an obvious place. During a conversation or a class lecture, I sometimes hold up a finger to remind me that I have a question or comment when an appropriate moment comes.
My most visible reminders are related to my faith, so when I feel vulnerable, weak, or in despair, I don’t forget to trust in God. A few years ago, I found myself in a toxic work environment at our weekly planning meeting. I guess it came on gradually, so I didn’t really know it until it was causing me great grief.
I often felt myself on the verge of tears and my head and heart ached as I felt under attack. I realized that my only way to survive this setting was to invite God to stand with me. When the onslaught would begin, I would rub my pinkie ring that has a cross and the word faith to steady my shaking hands. I started putting sticky notes with verses of love on my laptop to remind me that I was a beloved child of God.
Around my house, I have many visible reminders to thank and praise God including wall hangings and plaques with verses of Scripture. I continue to wear jewelry that gives me reminders of God’s love and power at work in my life.
All of these reminders help me to keep God first in my heart no matter what else is happening within and around me. Praise be to our loving God.
God of Wind and Flame, you bless us abundantly! Thank you for standing with us and guiding us through the storms of our lives. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: God’s plan becomes visible when we trust and obey God.
Don’t forget to carry reminders with you! Pastor Liz
