Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 21, 2024
Revelation 21:3-5
3 I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “Look! God’s dwelling is here with humankind. He will dwell with them, and they will be his peoples. God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. There will be no mourning, crying, or pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Good Morning! A New Day is Coming!
“Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” It seems that I have been taking classes all of my life. As a student, your primary goal is to determine which information the professor shares is what you most need to know to do well in the class.
Often, this is challenging. The teacher shares so much knowledge that you become overwhelmed, and later, when you review your notes, you can’t recover the same passion you felt in class. You try to discern whether this is important or just nice-to-know background info.
Occasionally, the professor will say, “Write this down!” or “You need to remember this!” When this happens, I put a star in my notes to remind myself to focus on this information.
Imagine being one of the disciples and walking with Jesus. Every moment, Jesus is talking and teaching. I imagine there were times when you were trying to listen as a student, but then there were times when you found yourself listening and watching in awe and wonder.
This passage ends with, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” The great teacher is giving us a hint so that we might do well on the “final exam.” When a class ends, you take a final exam to show what you’ve learned. Likewise, when the old world comes to an end, we need to know the story of God our Creator.
Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Today is a new day. We are easily overwhelmed when we try to learn your ways. Thank you for giving us hints along the way. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God gives us the answers. Listen to God!
Write this down, “God Loves You.!” Pastor Liz
