Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 25, 2025
Psalm 19:1-9
1 Heaven is declaring God’s glory; the sky is proclaiming his handiwork. 2 One day gushes the news to the next, and one night informs another what needs to be known. 3 Of course, there’s no speech, no words their voices can’t be heard 4 but their sound extends throughout the world; their words reach the ends of the earth. God has made a tent in heaven for the sun. 5 The sun is like a groom coming out of his honeymoon suite; like a warrior, it thrills at running its course. 6 It rises in one end of the sky; its circuit is complete at the other. Nothing escapes its heat. 7 The LORD’s Instruction is perfect, reviving one’s very being. The LORD’s laws are faithful, making naive people wise. 8 The LORD’s regulations are right, gladdening the heart. The LORD’s commands are pure, giving light to the eyes. 9 Honoring the LORD is correct, lasting forever. The LORD’s judgments are true. All of these are righteous!
Good Morning! Behold the glory of the Lord!
David’s poetic imagery in the first six verses is amazing. As I consider his description, the phrase “actions speak louder than words” comes to my mind. I remember visiting with someone who had slipped into the last phase of dementia. She spoke only a few words, but communicated “loudly and explicitly” through her actions.
Her loving husband sat across from her and shared her story with me. As he spoke, I sensed the great love between them. She placed her foot on his leg and gently, lovingly rubbed his leg. It almost resembled a schoolgirl who was sneaking a touch out of the teacher’s view. This touch, however, represented a long, sustaining love that had endured all things: the celebrations and the heartaches.
Despite her inability to speak, I felt honored to learn her story and recognize the love she shared with her husband of many years. There are times in our relationship with God when we can not form the words to convey our thoughts, but God knows everything before we voice them. Thanks be to God who holds us in a long, sustaining love through which we endure all things.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Your love for us is immeasurable. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God communicates with us in many unspoken ways.
God's love for us is beyond words! Pastor Liz
