Morning Devotional 070822 All That Glitters

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

July 8, 2022

Read Psalm 25:4-11

4 Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth—teach it to me because you are the God who saves me. I put my hope in you all day long. 6 LORD, remember your compassion and faithful love they are forever! 7 But don’t remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoing. Remember me only according to your faithful love for the sake of your goodness, LORD. 8 The LORD is good and does the right thing; he teaches sinners which way they should go. 9 God guides the weak to justice, teaching them his way. 10 All the LORD’s paths are loving and faithful for those who keep his covenant and laws. 11 Please, for the sake of your good name, LORD, forgive my sins, which are many!

Good morning! This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

The joy of the Lord is my strength! You made us and gave us many blessings. You chose for us to have dominion over all the other creatures on this earth. We are each intricately woven so that we might follow your path to righteousness. However, you also gave us free will so that we might learn through our struggles. Just like a child who has to test the waters before they will believe what their parents tell them, we too must try things “our” way.

As a parent you give us grace and mercy when we make our choices and you are patiently waiting when we need someone to pick up the pieces of our broken lives. We read Your Word and we believe, yet we get distracted by all the glitters and glows in the darkness. We want to “see” what the others find so fascinating, so we wander into the shadows thinking that I’ll just step in for a moment and I’ll be right back. Evil is a powerful seductress and sometimes that moment becomes hours, days, or even years.

When we finally realize that we are so lost that we no longer know the way home, we call out to you and you are there waiting to show us the way and welcome us home. Each time we recognize our sins and ask for forgiveness, you not only forgive us but wipe the slate clean as if the sin never happened. You are a mighty God. I lift all glory and praise to your Holy Name. The last verse of today’s passage is so well stated by David: 11 Please, for the sake of your good name, LORD, forgive my sins, which are many! Amen and Amen

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We step out each day promising to share your love and mercy, but sometimes we stumble and fall. Thank you for being there to catch us and help us up. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I can stay on course when I keep in step with God.

Rejoice! God is Near! Pastor Liz
