Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 14, 2025
1 John 5:13-15
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of God’s Son so that you can know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence that we have in our relationship with God: If we ask for anything in agreement with his will, he listens to us. 15 If we know that he listens to whatever we ask, we know that we have received what we asked from him.
Good Morning! Praise God who reigns above!
Prayer is our way to communicate with God. Think of talking to your best friend, the one who knows you best! You can be honest without worrying about being judged. You can start in the middle of the story because you share a rich history together. Sometimes, words are not necessary. Sharing space in the presence of a friend is enough.
When do you pray? Do you pray after you’ve tried everything else, and prayer is your last-ditch effort? Do you pray for frivolous things? How about those results you hope for when you haven’t done your part? i.e., O Lord, help me pass this test that I didn’t study for?
What are your expectations? Do you expect an immediate response? Do you expect God to give you the results for which you ask? When we are in a mature relationship with God, praying can resemble talking to our best friend.
God can be a sounding board! God will patiently let us vent and get out our frustrations. God is always listening and will answer in ways that provide us with ways to find our way back home. There is no reason to hide our feelings and thoughts because God knows. God will hold space with us and just be with us when we need companionship.
God is ready to listen whenever we need to talk. Even if you haven’t talked in a long while, God is waiting with open arms for you to return. God welcomes all because God created all!
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! You are always listening and watching over us. You patiently wait for our prayers. Even when we forget to spend time with you, you are always there waiting for us to come. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Praying connects us to God!
