Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 17, 2025
Galatians 6:7-10
7 Make no mistake, God is not mocked. A person will harvest what they plant. 8 Those who plant only for their own benefit will harvest devastation from their selfishness, but those who plant for the benefit of the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. 9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. 10 So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.
Good Morning! Again, I say Rejoice!
Most of us have started something new: a new program, a new routine, or a new hobby. I am what I would call an “all-in” participant. When I make the choice to do something, I commit myself to researching and planning, so I’m ready to begin this new thing.
On day 1, I sometimes feel some apprehension, but I’m committed, so I think, “This will get better!” Or, if I really need encouragement to go on, I urge myself into believing it’s going to be great. Usually, after a few days, I start to become comfortable with this activity and
show signs of improvement.
Things continue well until I reach the point where I no longer see visible signs of growth. Then, I start questioning my plan or the activity with which I’ve chosen to engage. Of course, there are those complete failure events that cause an immediate need to withdraw.
Regardless of the results, I seem to reach a point when I grow weary of the “fun” and put aside my plan.
When I’m honest, I must admit I have the supplies and tools of more than one great idea that ended before completion. Paul is telling the Galatians that they must endure, and in time, the harvest will come. “Let’s not get tired of doing good” seems like a great sticker slogan. Better yet, maybe a daily reminder to pull us out of our doldrums and keep us moving forward.
Even when the harvest seems slow, given time, commitment, and nurturing, the fruits of our efforts will come, maybe when we’re on the verge of giving up. Stay the course!
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We love you for being patient when we feel antsy. We will continue to strive until your love, mercy, and compassion fill us with joy. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Hold on! Keep your eye on the prize!
Never tire of doing good! Pastor Liz
