Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 3, 2022
Read Psalm 92:1-4
1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, Most High; 2 to proclaim your loyal love in the morning, your faithfulness at nighttime 3 with the ten-stringed harp, with the melody of the lyre 4 because you’ve made me happy, LORD, by your acts. I sing with joy because of your handiwork.
Good morning! Give thanks with a grateful heart!
Each morning that we awaken is a new day filled with possibilities to serve God in response to the beautiful gifts that we have and are continuing to receive. What if from the moment our eyes opened, we thanked God for one more day and began to look for ways to serve. Hallelujah! What a great day this is!
I believe that we make choices about our approach to the day or to life. I imagine we all know those who are happy “all the time” and those who never seem to be happy. Jesus teaches us that we are to praise God and give thanks for everything. Sometimes it’s hard when we are within a challenging moment, but it is during our challenges that we grow both mentally and spiritually.
Some believe that life would be so great if we never had challenges and never wanted for anything. When we have idle hands and brains, evil sees an opportunity to turn us from our path. When we are working to face our obstacles and looking for opportunities to “do good”, our hands and thoughts are focused on what is good.
When we face challenges as an opportunity to grow, wonderful things happen. It’s hard, but when we choose to approach all that happens on our journey to God with joy, everything changes. Will we slip and fall along this journey? Of course! But we can always return to the light and listen to the Good News as we are embraced by our Lord and Savior. God loves us and is with us always.
Loving and Caring God, Thank You for loving us. We praise Your Holy name! Help us look for all that is good instead of focusing on what is wrong. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: What a difference gratitude to God can make!
