Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 20, 2023
Isaiah 41:8-10
8 But you, Israel my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham, whom I love, 9 you whom I took from the ends of the earth and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant; I chose you and didn’t reject you”: 10 Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.
Good Morning; God is with us!
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
This is one of my comfort verses in the Bible. When I read it or sing it, it warms my heart and makes me smile. No matter what storms surround me, I know God is with me. These words are my “everything is going to be okay” assurance.
When my mom was no longer herself due to the ravages of Alzheimer’s, I longed to be able to speak to my mom. One day when a plan to help her fell to pieces, I was upset and overwhelmed because I didn’t know how to fix things. She looked at me in a way that was mom and said in her voice that I hadn’t heard for months, “everything is going to be okay.” Then she lapsed back into the shell of her body.
I know this was a message from God shared with me in a precious way that allowed us to share one more moment together.
In our times of need and trouble, God is by our side, holding us, telling us that everything is going to be okay.
Loving God, We thank you! You hold us like our parents would hold us when we need assurance. You promise to be with us always. We love you! Thank you! In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Scripture reminds me that God is with me.
