Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 24, 2024
Matthew 25:25-34
25 “Therefore, I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you’ll eat or what you’ll drink, or about your body, what you’ll wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t sow seed or harvest grain or gather crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are? 27 Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? . . . 33 Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Good Morning! Don’t worry, be happy!
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
Each moment of the day presents opportunities and challenges. Depending on our perspective, these can simply be passing things or cause great worry. When our worries become too much, we feel overwhelmed and get lost in our despair.
27 Who among you, by worrying, can add a single moment to your life?
Not only do we not add a single moment, but we actually can shorten our lives when our worry begins to cause physical problems like high blood pressure, loss of sleep, and stress.
If we can focus our thoughts and energies on those we can affect, we will forget about things beyond our control. As we walk along our daily path, we should take time to praise God’s handiwork, see and help those in need, and pray for guidance when unsure of what we should do.
34 Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. Let us rejoice in your goodness and focus on serving one another. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Release your grip on tomorrow and give God today’s worries.
Don’t worry, be happy! Pastor Liz
