Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

August 31, 2022

Read: 1 John 3:1-3

1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us in that we should be called God’s children, and that is what we are! Because the world didn’t recognize him, it doesn’t recognize us. 2 Dear friends, now we are God’s children, and it hasn’t yet appeared what we will be. We know that when he appears we will be like him because we’ll see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves even as he is pure.

Good morning! This is the day to claim Christ!

We are called as children of God. Just like when we are youngsters, no one knows who we will grow into as adults. We are born into a life of unending possibilities. When we gaze upon the eyes of our children, we see what is good and what is pure.

When God looks into our eyes, God too sees what is good and what is pure. The world may see you as a doctor, a plumber, a nice person, an unhappy person, a quiet person . . . The list is endless. For those who are nonbelievers, that is likely all they see in us. God, however, sees us as his children. God sees past the dirt that we have gathered along our journey, and God sees past our poor choices and sinfulness. God sees this child who is ready to personify Christ for all to see.

Stand up and be counted as a child of God. Others may not understand and they might even mock you, but you know in whom you believe today and always.

Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. You are always here. You have provided us with an identity that is precious. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: In Christ, my identity is a beloved child of God.

Unworthy, but Loved! Pastor Liz
