Morning Devotional 091221 Never Forget!

Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

September 12, 2021

Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9

4 Israel, listen! Our God is the LORD! Only the LORD! 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength. 6 These words that I am commanding you today must always be on your mind. 7 Recite them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting around your house and when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them on your hand as a sign. They should be on your forehead as a symbol. 9 Write them on your house’s door frames and on your city’s gates.

Good Morning! Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength.

Never Forget! Today’s passage calls us to carry God’s love with us always, and so that we don’t forget we should use symbols and signs to help us.

I love using inspirational quotes, typically Bible verses, to guide me through my days. A few years ago, I had a particularly difficult work situation and I realized that after a few weeks of feeling downtrodden that I needed reminders to show me way back to the light. I used sticky notes on the pages of my notebook. I carried a small stone engraved with the word believe as a reminder in my pocket, and when I felt the darkness enveloping me I could reach in my pocket, remember, and reemerge from the shadows.

God doesn’t promise us a challenge-free life. However, God promises to be there with us to guide us, love us, and show us mercy. Little reminders like notes, stones, crosses, pictures, and nature walks during a break are all ways to reconnect with our God who loves us unconditionally. Additionally, we can become that beacon to others around us. A smile, a kind gesture, a thoughtful word might be the difference between someone wallowing in the darkness and dancing in the light. When we find ways to keep God’s words in your heart, mind, and soul, you will be strengthened and filled with joy.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We love you, but sometimes we get caught in the darkness that covers so much of the earth. Thank you for being there to pull us back into the light when we call out to you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Because of Jesus’ love for me, I always have love to give.

What reminds you of God’s amazing love? Pastor Liz
