Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 12, 2025

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1 There’s a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens: 2 a time for giving birth and a time for dying, a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted, 3 a time for killing and a time for healing, a time for tearing down and a time for building up, 4 a time for crying and a time for laughing, a time for mourning and a time for dancing, 5 a time for throwing stones and a time for gathering stones, a time for embracing and a time for avoiding embraces, 6 a time for searching and a time for losing, a time for keeping and a time for throwing away, 7 a time for tearing and a time for repairing, a time for keeping silent and a time for speaking, 8 a time for loving and a time for hating, a time for war and a time for peace.

Good Morning! In God’s time, all things are beautiful!

Time! Our understanding of time is within human parameters. God’s time is infinite. Years in our human construct could be but a moment with God.

If we consider time as an abstract concept, we could possibly understand more clearly, but abstract is hard. Perhaps, we can rationalize time as a relative concept.

Do you remember as a child when you were told something exciting would arrive in three days, it seemed like an eternity for the big day to arrive? Each minute felt like hours and each day stretched on for weeks.

Compare that to time as an older adult. It seems like yesterday when our children who are now 40 or older, were just toddlers walking with us side-by-side. It seems that the older we become, the faster time moves.

Of course, a minute is still 60 seconds, an hour is still 60 minutes, and a day is still 24 hours. The difference is in our perception of time as we know it. When we try to place these human constructs of time on God’s “schedule,” we are without understanding.

For most of us, it would be like walking into an advanced level math class and trying to move our understanding from 2+2=4 to boards filled with numbers and symbols we don’t recognize. This is why we must place our trust and faith in God, that in the end, everything is going to be okay!

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We continue to struggle is letting go of what we think we should control. Thank you for loving us anyway. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Be still and let God be God.

God’s time is beautiful! Pastor Liz
