Morning Devotional 091423 The World Needs Love

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 14, 2023

Romans 12:9-16

9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. 10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other. 11 Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord! 12 Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of God’s people, and welcome strangers into your home. 14 Bless people who harass you—bless and don’t curse them. 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and cry with those who are crying. 16 Consider everyone as equal, and don’t think that you’re better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don’t think that you’re so smart.

Good Morning. It is a great day to sing praise to God

Oh, what an album of sermon stories this passage includes. Each verse contains a complete message that stands alone on its own merit.

  1. Authentically love: focus on what is good.

  2. Love one another

  3. Be on fire for the Lord

  4. Be happy, steadfast, and pray continuously

  5. Help all who are in need

  6. Bless all, including those who harass you

  7. Be attentive to each other: laugh when they laugh, cry when they cry

  8. Humble yourself and remove your haughty thoughts: all are equal in the eyes of God.

This is quite a list! Are we up to the task of completing it? After laughing at our own sinful inadequacies, we are to turn our lives to God because only by the grace of God is this possible.

Loving God, We love you! Without you, we are a mess. Thank you for loving us as we are and blessing us with the Holy Spirit so that we can move toward You! In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: When you start with love, you are on the right path.

Love One Another! Pastor Liz
