Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

Read 1 Timothy 4:7-16
7 But stay away from the godless myths that are passed down from the older women. Train yourself for a holy life! 8 While physical training has some value, training in holy living is useful for everything. It has promise for this life now and the life to come. 9 This saying is reliable and deserves complete acceptance. 10 We work and struggle for this: “Our hope is set on the living God, who is the savior of all people, especially those who believe.” 11 Command these things. Teach them. 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young. Instead, set an example for the believers through your speech, behavior, love, faith, and by being sexually pure. 13 Until I arrive, pay attention to public reading, preaching, and teaching. 14 Don’t neglect the spiritual gift in you that was given through prophecy when the elders laid hands on you. 15 Practice these things, and live by them so that your progress will be visible to all. 16 Focus on working on your own development and on what you teach. If you do this, you will save yourself and those who hear you.
Good Morning! Our hope is set on the living God!
I am called to laugh this morning as I marvel at God’s mysterious ways. How many times in your life when you are facing a challenge, do you turn to a passage of scripture and your mind is opened and suddenly you see with clarity how to proceed? When this happens, you are experiencing a God moment! Cherish these precious moments!
Timothy is calling us to develop our spiritual fitness so that we might be an example for those around us. It has promise for this life now and the life to come. This morning I am interpreting Timothy’s use of the word young, to include those who are new (spiritual age vs. physical age) to leading the fellowship of believers.
There are many, like me, who are called to share the good news when we are no longer among the physically young. As I embark on this new tangent of my journey, I sometimes feel as though I’m a toddler learning to walk while I stumble along my way. As I continue to develop my spiritual fitness, I will rely upon God and the words that he has placed upon my heart so that I may teach others to believe through my thoughts, words, and actions. This morning I ask you to consider your own spiritual fitness regime. God calls us to reflect Christ to the world, so that all may come to join the fellowship of believers. Join me in getting fit for God!
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We often stumble along our paths, yet you are always there to help us regain our footing. May we be the light to those who live in darkness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When I spend time in prayer and Bible reading, I renew my strength.
Lace up your running shoes and get fit! Pastor Liz
