Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 22, 2022
Read: Jeremiah 31:1-6
1 At that time, declares the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people. 2 The LORD proclaims: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness. As Israel searched for a place of rest, 3 the LORD appeared to them from a distance: I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. And so with unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself. 4 Again, I will build you up, and you will be rebuilt, virgin Israel. Again, you will play your tambourines and dance with joy. 5 Again, you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; farmers will plant and then enjoy the harvests. 6 The time will come when the watchmen shout from the highlands of Ephraim: “Get ready! We’re going up to Zion to the LORD our God!”
Good morning! Take time to thank God for your blessings!
A new season is upon us. I look forward to a reawakening of my senses as I breathe in the sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and touches of fall. When I am asked which season is my favorite, I think that I’m strongly influenced by the upcoming season. When I’m in the dog days of summer, I eagerly anticipate the cool, crisp air of fall. When I’m in the depths of winter, I can’t wait for those first signs of spring. I guess you could call me fickle, but I think that it’s somewhat natural to long for things that we haven’t had recently. Fall with all its color and majesty is a beautiful way to see God’s glory.
Jeremiah is continuing his prophecy of the New Covenant (the coming of Christ). He is particularly addressing those in Northern Israel who were still in exile. He is providing hope for a lost group of people by reminding them how God can take the broken and make it new again.
For us today, we are reminded that God is with us. Even when we are lost and broken, God will lift us up and make us new. God provides hope for the hopeless. Hallelujah!
All who call Jesus their savior will be brought to glory.
Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Thank you for sending Jesus to be our beacon of hope. Sometimes we get lost! Thank you for never letting us go. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God’s love has the power to deliver me from hopelessness.
Believe and Be Blessed! Pastor Liz
