Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
September 26, 2021
Read Matthew 19:13-15
13 Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them. 14 “Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children.” 15 Then he blessed the children and went away from there.
Good Morning! Live life as a child of God!
I am loving these cool mornings as I am invigorated during my morning outside time. This morning I watched the International Space Station as it traversed the sky above me. Imagine the joy of seeing 15 sunrises, and 15 sunsets in each 24 hour period in orbit.
This passage was part of last week’s sermon for my children’s Sabbath celebration. To experience life as a child is a special gift. As adults, we often struggle with letting go and just being present in that moment. We are distracted by the many tasks on our to-do lists. We talk/text on the phone as we multi-task our way through our days.
It is fair to say that we must be adults for most of our day, but maybe we can deliberately set aside a few moments each day to stop being an adult. If we can use that time to experience life like the child inside us, we will be blessed as we let go of “what we know” and open ourselves to “what might be”. Before we grew up and knew the answers, remember when we could look at things and imagine endless possibilities.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We work so hard to be adults, but help us never lose sight of the child within us. Through the lens of a child, we are best equipped to see and feel you in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Open your eyes to see God working in your life!
Enjoy the moment! Pastor Liz
