Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
October 4, 2021
Read Ephesians 2:6-10
6 And God raised us up and seated us in the heavens with Christ Jesus. 7 God did this to show future generations the greatness of his grace by the goodness that God has shown us in Christ Jesus. 8 You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed. 9 It’s not something you did that you can be proud of. 10 Instead, we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.
Good Morning! In a world where you can be anything, be kind!
God raises us up and saves us by our faith. Our response to our salvation is to love God and love one another. One way to show this to the world is to be kind to one another. If ever there was a time that needed kindness, it is now. Everyday we hear of examples of selfishness and God’s children being unkind. Think of the rise of violence by airline passengers and the unexplained shootings around our country.
Yes, these past months have been unlike any other in our lifetimes, but more challenging than social distancing and wearing masks is the evil that has become prevelant. Evil is always waiting in the darkness for an opportunity to tempt us. Maybe during the times of quarantine, some lost hope and evil started growing within them, festering, and waiting for opportunities.
Now is not the time to lose faith. No, in challenging times we must work even harder to be the light of the world, shouting God’s glory with every essense of our being, and spreading hope to the world. May we begin with baby steps of kindness as we embark on this journey.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. There is so much despair in our world today. Help us stand up in Your name and be the light for the world. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Jesus is the greatest gift of kindness I’ll ever receive.
Show kindness to someone today! Pastor Liz
