Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

2 Timothy 3:14-17
14 But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15 Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17 so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.
Good Morning! Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet!
How often do we get ready to assemble something we’ve purchased and leave the instructions unopened in the box? I know some of you would never do that, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this. I start assembling it, and only when I run into a problem do I pull out the instructions.
Of course, sometimes this means I have to take something apart and try it again (the right way). My fellow self-starters also have to decide what to do with the leftover parts. Hmmm! I wonder where that belonged. Admittedly, I have gotten better at glancing at the instructions before starting.
Many times, we approach our faith journey in the same way. The Bible provides instructions and examples for living our lives as God intended, but too often, we go out and make a mess of things and then turn to God and Scripture to figure out the mess we created. Like my projects to assemble things, our lives would be easier if we first read and studied and then acted upon what we’ve learned.
We have the tools we need, but they are useless if we leave them unopened.
Dear Lord, We are your children! Thank you for giving us a map to help us figure out the answers. Help us remember to open it more frequently. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
