Proverbs 3:1-6

1 My son, don’t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands, 2 because they will help you live a long time and provide you with well-being. 3 Don’t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.

Good Morning! Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

Have you played the game where one person stands behind another, and then the person in front closes their eyes and leans back? You must trust that the person behind you is going to catch you.

If you are doing this with someone you know well, you likely have established a relationship of trust. What if the other person is a stranger or, worse, someone who wants to make you look silly? Think of the Charlie Brown and Lucy skit where Lucy holds the football, and just as Charlie Brown goes to kick it, she pulls it away.

Some people are naturally trusting, while others are skeptical. During our earthly existence, we have the opportunity to learn and grow in our faith. One way we do this is by building relationships with others. A good relationship starts with open communication and the sharing of thoughts. A relationship is where you can be completely vulnerable without fearing judgment.

When we accept our relationship with God, we share our thoughts through prayer and meditation. We learn by reading the Bible and attending worship. We grow by interacting with the members of our faith community. Through all of these things, trust is established. If we trust and praise God when all is well, then we should equally trust and praise God as we work through our struggles.

No one knows us better than God, who promises to always be with us. God knows our best and our worst thoughts and loves us unconditionally. When we make a complete mess of things, God extends a hand without the expected speech of judgment we deserve.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.

Dear Lord, We are your children! Life makes us cynical because others have hurt us in the past, and now we find trusting others difficult. Help us open our hearts and boldly accept your love as we take a risk and trust You in all things. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Trusting God strengthens our faith.
