Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 18, 2024
Psalm 145
1 I will lift you up high, my God, the true king. I will bless your name forever and always. 2 I will bless you every day. I will praise your name forever and always. 3 The LORD is great and so worthy of praise! God’s greatness can’t be grasped. 4 One generation will praise your works to the next one, proclaiming your mighty acts. 13 Your kingdom is a kingship that lasts forever; your rule endures for all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all that he says, faithful in all that he does. 14 The LORD supports all who fall down, straightens up all who are bent low. 15 All eyes look to you, hoping, and you give them their food right on time, 16 opening your hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing.
Good Morning! I will lift your name on high!
How do you start a new day? It can be helpful to be intentional about your thoughts because this can set the tone for your day and even your life. If you start your day with dread, you are starting in a negative mindset from which it is hard to recover.
Many people create to-do lists or checklists to guide them through their daily tasks. Perhaps if we created a wake-up checklist, we could nurture a positive aura that allows us to focus on what is good! It may seem silly or too simple, but how you start is key. If you start with the idea that it will be an awful day, then it will likely be just that! When we start with peace and hope, we start ahead of the curve.
So, let’s start our list!
Open eyes: say, “Thank you, God, for a new day!”
Breathe, Stretch, and Smile (smiles are important)
Sit up: say, “Thank you, God, for loving me!”
Stand up: look around you and say, “Thank you, God, for my blessings.”
Look or Go outside: marvel in God’s glory
Pray
Now you are ready!
I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and the need to set our focus on God each day. Your routine may differ from mine, but take time to prepare for your day by spending time with God so that you may start your day with eager anticipation of the possibilities that will arise.
Dear Lord, We are your children! It is easy to enter our days with dread of our expected challenges. By your grace, we can give the dread and worry to you. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Meditating on God’s blessings brings me peace.
Start with prayer! Pastor Liz
