Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 19, 2025

Galatians 6:7-10

7 Make no mistake, God is not mocked. A person will harvest what they plant. 8 Those who plant only for their own benefit will harvest devastation from their selfishness, but those who plant for the benefit of the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. 9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. 10 So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.

Good Morning! Let’s work for the good of all!

I appreciate God’s mysterious ways. I’ve shared with many of you that I was a reluctant writer for years. I was comfortable writing research or fact-based papers, but when the writing involved personal thoughts, I struggled to even begin. My time reading the Bible was sporadic at best. My schedule was packed, and I often forgot to include daily time meditating with God.

Five years ago, shortly after choosing to follow my call into ministry, God said, “I want to spend time with you each morning. You should read scripture and share your thoughts.” I was good with the reading, but sharing my personal thoughts was scary. When I began writing devotionals five years ago, I didn’t know how God would use my writing to change my life, but I said, “Okay,” and here I sit this morning reading and sharing my thoughts.

As part of my releasing control, I decided to use whatever passage the Upper Room used to be my passage. I read the passage each morning and share liminal space with God in meditation. Throughout the course of the past five years, I let God lead me as I allow the words to wash over me. I smile when I hear God saying, “See, this is what I mean!” Tears flow when the words touch my most vulnerable spots. I share what God places on my heart with you, so that you might be touched and blessed by God.

This morning, my heart focuses on the words, “Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up.” Along our journey, we have times when the harvest is plentiful, but as any farmer knows, we have those times when our fields struggle. There is too much rain, or not enough rain. It’s too hot, or not hot enough. The winds come and blow over our crops.

Despite the challenges, we are to continue planting the seeds and sharing God’s love with the world. Never give up because God is with us! By God’s grace, the harvest will come. When we share ourselves with others, we share God’s love, mercy, and grace. We plant the seeds of love and kindness for God.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Even when we don’t see the results, we know that you are working through us to gather those who are lost. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Embrace each new day as a chance to share kindness!
